Kings Dominion to remove Anaconda
Anaconda made its debut at Kings Dominion in 1991.
DOSWELL, Va. (WWBT) - Kings Dominion is removing the Anaconda, a rollercoaster that has been at the park since 1991.
Online records from Virginia 811 show that a ticket was filed Dec. 20 to demolish the roller coaster.
“Anaconda will be removed from the park prior to the start of the 2025 season,” Kings Dominion spokesperson Geoff Zindren said on Friday morning. “We understand that saying goodbye to classic rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests' passion for Kings Dominion.”
Kings Dominion’s website says Anaconda was the world’s first looping roller coaster that featured an underwater tunnel.
The site also says Anaconda was “one of the most photographed rides at Kings Dominion.”
A Kings Dominion fan website says removing Anaconda is “disappointing.”
“To see it erased from the landscape of Kings Dominion will be very sad for many,” KDFans.com said.
The move comes as the park is celebrating a milestone anniversary and prepares to debut a new coaster, Rapterra.
The new coaster "Rapterra" will debut at Kings Dominion next year.
“We’re confident that the addition of Rapterra and our upcoming 50th anniversary celebration underscores our commitment to elevating the park experience and making every visit truly memorable for all,” Zindren said.
Kings Dominion is also making a change to another rollercoaster next year. The former Intimidator 305 will be called Pantherian in 2025.
The ride operated under the name Project 305 during the 2024 season.
The amusement park is now operating under Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. The company merged with Cedar Fair earlier this year.
